SkyVFX Lab is not Nuke and does not walk through its menus. It is a node-based mini compositor whose maths matches Nuke, so when you open the real app you know which node to use and why.
To learn inside the app itself, we are recording video courses taught directly in Nuke. Their current status is below.
Learn in this order
- 01Comp FoundationsChannels, alpha, premult, merge, grade and node vs layer in the mini compositor
- 02ColorLinear vs display, sRGB ≠ gamma 2.2, log, stops, gamut, view transforms
- 03Keying LabKey a green screen in the browser, scored against the true Blender matte: keyer, edges and fine wires, despill
- 04Roto & MasksShapes, feather, Keymix, matte merges and holdouts
- 05Transform & FilteringMove, scale, rotate, pivots, resampling and concatenation
- 06Tracking & Matchmove2D tracks, stabilise, planar, 3D camera solves, lens distortion and checking a matchmove
- 07IntegrationMake CG sit in the plate: blacks by depth, haze, light wrap, grain, QC, AOV rebuilds
Pricing: Comp Foundations and the first lesson of every pack are free · packs $9 or $15 · whole Lab $89, one payment

Common questions
Do I need Nuke first?
Not for the Lab, which runs in your browser. The video courses are taught in Nuke, so you will want the app for those.
Does this carry over to real Nuke?
Yes. The mini compositor’s maths matches Nuke, so things like merge, premult and grade work the same way when you open the real app.
